Low-Fidelity Prototype: Improvements to Etsy.com

For a User Experience Design class at UNC?Chapel Hill, I co-managed a group project where we evaluated Etsy.com’s landing page and used market analysis, user interviews, and personas to inform an Adobe XD prototype with a few improvements.

Purpose:

This project primarily served as a final project for a User Interface Design graduate course at UNC-Chapel Hill. We intended to practice using various research methods to inform a low-fidelity prototype.

Process:

First, I identified issues I personally noted on Etsy’s landing page (insufficient search filtering options). To determine a solution, my classmate Cassidy conducted three user interviews. Gillian and I then developed personas to represent things heard in the interviews. Cassidy and I performed a small market analysis to learn about Etsy as a corporation and the niche it fills. All of these components led to the prototype I developed in Adobe XD, which is available here.

Outcomes:

The result of the project was a low-fidelity prototype I developed to bring together findings from my class group. The prototype and its full report are available below.

Lessons Learned:

In working on this project, I gained valuable practice working on a group project. Particular focus was placed on allowing research and interviews to inform design decisions- not my own preferences. I also was able to make use of my practice in Adobe XD to complete this project.
